Having over 20 years of experience in club management, Kevin O'Brien established a reputation for creating superior offerings to support demanding member-centric clubs and building high-performing, service-oriented organizations. Kevin continues his leadership at The Penn Club of New York. His goal is to create an environment of excellence and opportunity for both members and staff. With high-caliber programming and incorporating top-notch food & beverage into the dining, catering, and banquet business, exceptional results are in store.
Experienced and strategic private club manager concentrating on exceptional member-focused experiences in golf, food, wine, overall dining, and social club programs. Over 25 years managing country club & hotel operations for large and medium-sized private social clubs. Kevin's experience and reputation as an industry leader in food, beverage, and overall club management led the Yale Club team to a transformation of celebrated heights.
Kevin completed his culinary degree at La Varenne Cooking School. It was there that Kevin learned culinary skills to become a respected chef in the American contemporary food world in New York City. Kevin’s talents were quickly recognized by restaurateurs, including Richard Lavin. Kevin managed countless culinary events for Lavin in famed locales such as the New York Public Library, Lincoln Center, and The Guggenheim Museum. Subsequently, he joined the Marriott Marquis as a Catering Manager and then the Waldorf Astoria as Senior Catering Manager. Following those roles, Kevin spent 20 years at the Yale Club as Director of Food and Beverage and Catering. He had a lasting impact on the organization, transforming the dining experience and programming, among many other contributions. Most recently, Kevin served as the General Manager of North Hills Country Club in Manhasset, New York and previous to that, the General Manager at La Gorce Country Club in Miami Beach, Florida. It was at both of these clubs where Kevin honed his club management skills, while cultivating strong relationships with board members, management, and members of the Club.
Kevin’s responsibilities have included overall club management, team building, golf course and program facilitation, tennis, pool, and spa renovations, along with bringing in top chefs to cultivate exceptional food & beverage operations that include multiple restaurants, banquet functions, and weddings, private events, and room service. His experience is honed and broad, and he is goal-oriented in hiring and training the best staff possible to carry out club goals of superior service. Kevin has negotiated extensively with union and non-union labor over contracts and grievances and has spearheaded the management of multiple large-scale multi-million dollar club renovations. He has had key roles in creating, strategizing, and implementing club policies for budget management in golf, racket, and fitness operations with executives and committees within the board. Kevin provides members and guests the opportunity to have a hands-on manager to ensure member satisfaction and further board goals. His genuine and approachable manner with members and guests brings a hospitable touch unmatched in the industry.
